Patrice Roberts Embraces Viral Success of ‘Mind My Business’.

The phrase “Drink Water and Mind My Business” has been on the tip of tongues globally since its release on December 20th. The widely relatable catchphrase which guides the storytelling by Patrice Roberts in her song Mind My Business’ has been trending on social media platforms.

The song which is proving to be the go-to song of choice has been used in Instagram reels and Tik Tok videos that have to date surpassed 15 million views collectively. Thus far international celebrities TLC’s Chilli and former Destiny Child member Michelle Williams have posted themselves enjoying the hit single much to the delight of Patrice Roberts, her team and Soca lovers globally. While the Caribbean diaspora has been enjoying dancing to and referencing the track there has also been significant use of the song by social media influencers and content creators from outside of the Caribbean diaspora.

‘Mind My Business’ is now being classified as viral by many social media and industry experts. This is a categorization that Patrice accepts humbly. Her thoughts about this recent accomplishment are, “I just want to ensure that throughout this journey people know who I am.” She also adds, “Having a viral song is great and we have heard and seen the use of many viral songs on social media without actually seeing the face behind it. I do not want that to happen to me.”

Other than “Mind My Business” which was written by Mical Teja and Produced by Travis World and Dan Evens (producers of ‘Splash’), Patrice has five other new Soca releases in circulation; ‘Tricks’, ‘I Good’, ‘Soca Therapy’, ‘Hard On Me’ and ‘Rock Me.’

Is Trinbagonian Actor Winston Duke The New Black Panther?

Will Trinbagonian Actor Winston Duke be the new Black Panther?

This seems to be the million-dollar question from Marvel fans around the world and we may just have some inside news to help put your mind to rest. Yes, we can all agree that the anticipation for the next installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Black Panther movie is high and continues to grow bittersweetly since the tragic death of Chadwick Boseman, who played the movie’s hero T’Challa aka the Black Panther himself.

Initially, with the internet rumors swirling around that Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri would have been taking up the role of the new Black Panther in the movie’s sequel which is carded for release in 2022. However, a trusted inside source has now revealed that Marvel has decided that M’Baku, the character played by Winston Duke is being considered for the role after reports of trouble on the set actress Letitia Wright began circulating after the actress shared a post on social media that was reportedly seen as anti-vaccination. Later it was alleged, that she began sharing those views on set, though the actress has since denied doing that.

Letitia Wright

Letitia Wright aka Shuri

Since then, according to giantfreakinrobot.com, a source revealed that although Marvel wanted to see Shuri take on the Black Panther title they had concerns about Letitia Wright, so they are making backup plans. The exclusive alleged update hints that the ending for Black Panther 2 had been adjusted and Shuri would give the title up in the end and will be passing the title on to Winston Duke’s M’Baku. It’s going to be interesting to see how the movie leads up to that pivotal moment, and how they establish what M’Baku’s leadership will mean for Wakanda’s future after Black Panther 2.

Still uncertain of how exactly this will happen within the movie’s storyline, fans will just have to wait patiently to see how it all unfolds in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the sequel’s whose official title is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Hopefully, the story will set Winston Duke and the rest of the cast up to meet the high hopes Marvel fans have for Wakanda’s future.

Caribbean Entertainment Hub will be keeping you updated with this story as it continues to develop.

Trinidad & Tobago Is Preparing For ‘Festival of Fetes’ In August 2022

It seems like Trinidad and Tobago Tourism sector is well on its way to recovery in 2022. The Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts Senator the Honourable Randall Mitchell while speaking in the Senate during the recently concluded Budget debate, has announced a series of initiatives which includes a ‘Festival of Fetes’ to take place at the end of August 2022.

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts Senator the Honourable Randall Mitchell

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts,

Senator the Honourable Randall Mitchell

It is hoped that this concept of the ‘Festival of Fetes’ initiative will make Trinidad and Tobago the destination of choice post-COVID-19 pandemic. The ministry aims to package and market the number of band launches that occur during the period of June/July into a band launch season occurring over the space of two weekends as a festival.

Sharing with the Upper House, the Minister explained the following:

“Towards the end of August, we envision another festival that celebrates our distinct creative culture and how we have been able to innovate our hosting of events over the past years. With these new festivals, we see the creation of economic value for our cultural workers, our artistes, promoters, musicians and their ability to earn. As well as all the service providers. We see the attraction of visitors who could not make it for Carnival but who could perhaps visit and attend some of these new festivals. And as we plan and package these festivals, at present we are working with the promoters and with the Attorney General’s Office to reduce the bureaucracy that exists with hosting these events, with permissions from Fire, Police and the various licences. Simply put, the idea is to get more visitors, and more value created in the economy through our creative sector,”

The Minister also revealed that since the cancellation of Carnival this year, the economy has faced a major economical hit. Noting that Carnival alone accumulates 10% of the country’s total visitors with an estimated TT$450 million, almost half a billion dollars in direct spending from visitors with this figure mostly accounting for the 10 days leading up to Carnival Monday and Tuesday. Not to mention, the obvious benefits for stakeholders, such as artistes, promoters, mas makers, vendors and many more who earn during this time.

The Minister also shared his plans to improve other cultural celebrations, such as ‘Emancipation Day’, ‘Divali’, and ‘Phagwa’ celebrations to give them a much greater appeal and a source of attraction for visitors.

Other plans mentioned also includes the upgrading and additions of more Hotel rooms such as The Radisson Blu, The Brix, Comfort Inn Suites, as well as, the previous announcement of the construction of the Marriott in Tobago (a 200 Room 4 Star hotel), which will become an Anchor Property for the Island of Tobago with construction due to complete by 2024-2025. There is also a plan for another hotel, Hampton by Hilton at Piarco for 103 rooms, Coffee shop, Restaurant, Conference Meeting Room which is carded to start in January 2022.

With so many plans and initiatives in the works, the Minister also announced a new KLM flight between Amsterdam and Port of Spain that would act as a gateway to Europe.

“…this new route from Amsterdam reopens the possibilities for the Expansion of Trade, Tourism to the Dutch and other surrounding Markets with Trinidad and Tobago. It also opens up for faster connections for the majority of Trinbagonians of the West African and Indian Diaspora to connect through Amsterdam.”

And lastly, the Minister announced that they have received Cabinet’s Approval for their ‘Cultural Ambassador Programme’ that will be launching soon. As they will be selecting Cultural Ambassadors who have, by their talents, secured large fan bases and followings across the world to promote the Destination and our Culture.

R&B Singer & Businesswoman Ciara Invests in Trini-owned ‘Ten to One’ Rum

Grammy Award-Winning Singer, Dancer & Businesswoman Ciara is now officially a part of the award-winning Ten to One Rum family.

Ten To One is a contemporary and elevated spirit, designed to challenge expectations, and reinvigorate the way people taste, experience, and talk about rum. Ten To One Founder, Marc Farrell who was born and raised in Trinidad, left Trinidad at age 16 to study chemical engineering at MIT and later went on to become the youngest Vice President at Starbucks. Marc who founded the brand in 2019, believes that in the US there is an enormous opportunity to further elevate the conversation around rum.

From being a student of rum and its place within a myriad of settings his entire life, he understands the heritage of rum, as well as the broader role it plays in the Contemporary Caribbean culture.  By introducing a high-quality spirit to the market, he intends to broaden and challenge the current perception around the occasion for which rum might be considered the spirit of choice for today’s consumer. Announcing the news of his partnership with Ciara as their new investor and co-owner of the brand recently via social media, here’s what he wrote in the caption:

’10/1, marks a celebration to remember. Today we welcome @ciara to the Ten To One team as an Investor, Co-Owner, and Director. @Ciara shares our passion and drive to bring the beauty and versatility of rum to those who have yet to discover it. We are excited to have her join us on our mission to reinvigorate the way people taste, experience, and talk about rum’.

Ciara

Ciara

Ciara who is no stranger to business ventures wants to change how you think about rum. In 2019, she attended a short intensive course at Harvard Business School on the Business of Entertainment, Media, and Sports, which she said gave her skills to fine-tune her decision-making as well as learn from past business mistakes. For her latest business venture, she wants to change how you think about rum. The ‘Level Up‘ singer was first introduced to Ten to One through mutual friends of hers and Farrell’s, found a kindred spirit in the entrepreneur. This is what she shared via Instagram:

‘10.1 is now a Ten to One Holiday to me! When I was first introduced to @MarcFarrell12 I was immediately inspired by our shared sense of optimism and entrepreneurial drive. His mission to reinvigorate the rum category and challenge the status quo really resonated with me. From my first sip of @TenToOneRum I was immediately transported, its quality and taste is exceptional! I’m excited to join him on this journey as an investor, co-owner, and Director of Ten To One and introduce new audiences to the dynamism and versatility of rum’.

Ciara after breastfeeding her son Win for 10 months was planning her first cocktail, and also had this to share on her experience:

“I had a classic mojito. It’s one of my go-to’s, and it was really good. Imagine, I was breastfeeding for 10 months in quarantine, that was a journey. But it was also really sweet. I enjoy bonding with my baby, but it was definitely time. I was excited, looking forward to celebrating that moment and it was the perfect way to kick it off.”

For Ciara, spreading the word about how to craft those special cocktails for everyday celebrations is one of the reasons she joined Trinidad-born founder and CEO Marc Farrell as an investor, co-owner, and director for Ten To One rum. As an active owner and partner for Ten to One, Ciara will be directly involved in amplifying the brand’s commitment to reshaping the conversation around rum. With a focus on marketing, creativity, business development, and strategic partnerships, she will work closely with Farrell to bring his vision for an inclusive and inspired spirit to new communities where she has forged meaningful connections.

Ten To One is now presently available in 14 states in the US, and in select locations nationwide here in Trinidad & Tobago. For more information and updates, you can visit their website.

Apple Features Trini Song In Their New Products Ad Campaign

Congratulations are in order for Trinidadian producer, Keshav Chandradath Singh, and the XOriginals Dance Group whose song was featured in Apple’s latest global Ad campaign for their new series of products which includes the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro, all-new iPad mini, Apple Watch Series 7, and more.

The song ‘Winner Walk’ was produced by Jus Now (a two-member production team, popularly known for Bunji Garlin’s hit soca releases ‘Truck on the Road’ and ‘Big Bad Soca’). The production duo consists of Trinidadian producer and musician, Keshav Chandradath Singh and Sam Interface of the United Kingdom.

This is what Keshav had this to about the news:

“It’s a great look for Trinbagonian music on the contemporary world stage and having a seat at that table can hopefully bode well for the just dues Trini music deserves. It’s influenced the sound of global music for so long that it feels really good that WE music is being used to sell the most recognisable tech and personal device products in the world. Apple repurposed it and took out the vocals for the ad but the full version of the song can be found on all platforms including Apple Music, Youtube, Spotify, Tidal, Amazon and just about anywhere else”

Also receiving producer credits on the track is the popular Trinidad-based Dance company, XOriginals. Xander’s, the founder of XOriginals who is also featured on the vocals described the feeling of hearing the song on an Apple ad as unreal and had this to share as well:

“Having it synced on an Apple Inc. Commercial piece of content is unreal for us, yeah it’s exciting but more so it gives us that extra confirmation that our ideas can go farther than we think.”

XOriginals Founder Xander & Luna

Outside of the dance arena, the XOriginals Dance Group has been striving to produce their own soundtracks. In 2018, the group released a video mixtape titled ‘IslandHop’ and worked with Jus Now in 2019 on a soca dance track, ‘Way Up’. ‘Winner Walk’ was recorded and released before the pandemic. Sharing their excitement via Instagram, this is what the group posted:

“Winner Walk” made it into one of @apple new commercials for their latest product line release! The process of creating this project was the most organic and to be able to do it  with @jusnowmusic was a blessing. Much love to @moretimerecords and @somethingouttanothing

So much more to say about this but we’ll stop here even though we’re just getting started. P.S. Apple CEO #timcook premiered it on his twitter too! 😫crazy

Duke also compared life on the beautiful twin islands to well-known soap operas like ‘The Young and the Restless, ‘The Bold and Beautiful’, ‘Santa Barbara’ and ‘General Hospital. See the full interview below!
