Shenseea is forever living up to her title as the Trending Gyal! Even before the release of her debut album, ALPHA, she has been in the spotlight. Recently creating a stir with P. Diddy who she’s working with, and hitting the Billboard Music Awards with her son where she was a presenter, I’d say she’s been pretty on-brand.
Earlier today, on what she’s crowned “YengDay”, she took to her Twitter account and wrote to her followers that she’d be giving two people a second chance. Particularly, “two college dropouts in Jamaica” who she’ll be sending back to college to get their degree! However, in order to call this second chance their own, all interested folk are to provide proof that in fact they “had to stop because of financial difficulties”. This venture hits close to home as Shenseea herself had to drop out of college in her final year because she couldn’t cover the tuition.
With YengDay, which is her way of hugging her fans in pure appreciation for their support, she made the vow to cover the tuition of two deserving Jamaicans. YengDay began last year, 2021, and is a nod to the release date of the song, “ShenYeng Anthem”. “I asked God to bless me so I can help to bless others. Imma always do just that, as he continues to do so!” the ShenYeng tweeted after making her announcement.
Shenseea was also made the 2022 Music Ambassador for the WNBA team, the Connecticut Sun. This comes as a result of her song “Sun Comes Up” on her debut album, ALPHA. About how she feels about this move, Shenseea said, “I am especially honored to be a part of something that supports other strong women, and this collaboration represents everything that I want my music to be-music that empowers and uplifts people.” The song which features her son, Rajeiro Lee, will be played during the Sun’s home games. In the words of the team: “Sun Comes Up, an inspirational song about persistence and determination in the face of adversity, in addition to having the organization’s name in the title, the song could not be more fitting for the Connecticut Sun franchise as it seeks to take hold of the elusive WNBA championship.”
Shenseea recently came into heat for what was termed “lewd lyrics” in her collaborated single “Lick” with Megan Thee Stallion. According to her, she said the song did “exactly what I put it out to do: for you to talk, to stir up controversy”, which, to be honest, it did. Shenseea is set to kick off her European Tour on June 19th in Malta and word on the street is that she’s already begun her sophomore album which she says will be “completely different”.
