Talent Search Guyana 2021 Begins Streaming From 25th April To 26th May

The final leg of ‘Talent Search Guyana’ begins streaming this Sunday, April 25th at 7:00 pm EST and will continue airing every Sunday until the Grand Finale on May 26th.

The program was launched by Guyana’s Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport to provide Guyanese youth with the opportunity to showcase their talent. At the time of the Launching, Minister Hon. Charles Ramson Jr. said

“Guyana’s richness is really our cultural diversity, but we don’t get to sell that enough. That is one of the reasons why I am pushing our virtual programmes, a lot especially during Covid. This will allow us to not only push the richness of our cultural diversity within the territory of Guyana but worldwide.”

Aspiring entertainers were asked to submit one-minute videos showcasing their talent via WhatsApp for consideration by the judges. A live audition was held for those selected which will be shown in the early rounds beginning this Sunday. However, the semi-finals and finals will be done live.

The judges selected for the competition are Poonam Singh, Joel Ghansham, Timeka Marshall, and Akelo ‘DJ Akelo’ Elliott. Each has risen to prominence in their chosen field in Guyana and will be mentoring the contestants who make it through the audition rounds.

As quoted in the Guyana Chronicle, Poonam Singh expressed her delight in being one of the judges

“It’s my first time judging so it has been quite relaxing and refreshing to not be the one who’s auditioning! As you would know, my whole career started through a singing competition,”.

“What has been super exciting for me is seeing new talent in different categories; whether it is singing, dancing, spoken words, drumming, even down to painting. I was so happy to see people not losing hope or giving up on their dreams and goals despite the pandemic. They still came out and showcased their talent with pride,”.

The shows can be seen on Hits and Jams Television (HJTV), National Communications Network (NCN), Multi-Technology Vision (MTV), National Television Network (NTN), E-Networks and the Ministry’s Facebook page.

GTT+ Guyana Star singing Competition

The GTT+ Guyana Star singing Competition has officially made its highly anticipated return. The Guyanese, reality, talent Show that has been dubbed the Guyanese version of ABC’s hit Show ‘American Idol’ began hosting auditions for this season recently. The show has been lauded the ultimate star maker and can be credited with the discovery of some of the biggest names in Guyanese music today.

GTT+ Guyana Star is the platform that introduced us to: Shawn English, gospel singing sensation; Brandon Harding, the reigning Soca Monarch; Poonam Singh, the first runner up at the 2016 Miss Global International Pageant and singer of the patriotic hit song “GUYANA”; and Timeka Marshall , season one winner, who returns as a judge this season. Timeka Marshall is arguably one of the biggest Guyanese music acts in the pop culture landscape who is now a household name and an internationally acclaimed recording artiste. She has to her credits several commercially successful hits in and out of Guyana, including major international collaborations with Jamaican reggae Dancehall superstars such as: Peter Morgan and Busy signal.

The Guyana Star competition began as a Jingle competition hosted and sponsored by Guyanese telecommunication Giant GTT. Due to its initial commercial success, it has evolved to become a nationwide talent search and a star maker. It now boasts one of the biggest winner’s payday in Guyana with a top prize of One Million dollars (GYD$1,000,000) and a recording contract with a popular local recording studio.

Auditions for the GTT Guyana star Competition, customarily cover most of Guyana’s vast geographic landscape with auditions strategically held at popular locations within the major towns and counties of Guyana.  This is believe to be primarily responsible for the shows constantly increasing, diverse and dedicated following. This competition sells out it’s host venue, the National Cultural Center, every season and is one of the most watched local television programmes. GTT Guyana star also has international appeal as many in the Guyanese diaspora have affirmed their appreciation for the programme and the work it is doing in relation to the development of Artistes in Guyana.

In this Season, the show returned with a bang bringing all that has made it a hit in the past, mainly: a wealth of musical talent, entertainment, comedy and of course some high drama. Whether it’s a male contestant “turning up the charm” on a female judge to score some extra credits, the classic case of misguided vocal ability that often lends to some comedic genius, sarcastic judges’ comments on contestant performances and or internal bantering or the classic “I am not leaving the stage” contestant. We have seen it all in just the first two aired episodes of the season.

The auditions in Georgetown and Berbice has so far introduced many new faces and talents together with some old familiar ones as well. One such familiar face is that of past contestant Michael Small. Small who was 2nd runner-up at the tender age of 16 in 2013 has made a triumphant return in the ‘Berbice’ auditions. Small told Caribbean Entertainment hub in an exclusive interview that he decided to give the competition another try since he believes that he has matured and improved his musical skills since his last appearance and is now ready to take the crown.

For more information or just to follow the competition go to GTTGuyana Facebook or follow Caribbean entertainment hub for further updates and reports. Caribbean entertainment Hub takes this time to wish Michael Small and all other contestants in the GTT+ Guyana star Competition, best of luck on their journey.
