Chutney Soca Star KI’s ‘Single Forever’ Featured On Apple Music

They say that good music has no expiry date and Chutney Soca Star, KI’s hit ‘Single Forever’ continues to prove this statement to be true. A little over a decade has passed since the Kris ‘KI’ Persad made history as the youngest artiste to be crowned Chutney Soca Monarch in 2012. Since then his hit single continues to dominate becoming the first Chutney Soca song to be featured on the Apple Music Reggae Category as one of their best new songs.

So what exactly led to this new buzz surrounding ‘Single Forever’?

Well, as we previously reported Maha Productions, the first-ever Dolby Atmos Recording Studio in the Caribbean recently launched their (9) track EP album called ‘Island Stories’. The EP features the ‘Single Forever’ remix alongside Machel Montano which has now been featured on the Apple Music Reggae Category as one of its best new songs and the first ever Chutney Soca song to do so.

Sharing with Loop News from Toronto where KI resides, he explained that this is the first time the Chutney Soca genre got mainstream American recognition:

“Rishi Mahato started getting involved with Dolby Atmos and his studio became the first and only Dolby studio in the Caribbean. I had no intention of releasing any new songs so when he contacted me about the album I told him that we are coming up on the 10th anniversary of Single Forever and that the song was special to me so he said let’s feature it on the album. I said let’s go strong on the remix and funny enough, I was the only artiste on the album without a new track.”

“It was also on one of the playlists they created and they still have me earmarked as one of the top six songs. I am real proud of that, it is a lot for the genre. First time getting that recognition gives you a sense of completion in your life,” he said.

And it seems like KI is also gearing up to release some new music. A track called ‘San Juan’ produced by Rebel Music in New York which will pay homage to his hometown in Trinidad. We’re definitely excited to hear!

This year’s change in venue came as a result of the historical landmark Skinner Park, San Fernando being under extensive renovations. In a spectacular winning theatrical stage presentation of his mega Chutney soca hit ‘Anna, Anna’, GI Beharry earned the judge’s and crowd’s approval. We at Caribbean Entertainment Hub will like to congratulate GI on his winning the 2020 Chutney Soca Monarch title.
