‘Let muh laugh’ needed no permission Saturday night to have Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre (LESC) rocking to tears. Every seat was filled as the biggest names in regional comedy had the audiences’ attention gripped throughout the evening. The jokes, often cut close to home, with many politicians and other notable figures not being left out as the entertainers left no stones unturned in the pursuit of full joyous effect.
Mac Fingal is always one of those most skilled and quit witted MCs you will see anywhere in Barbados. His love of audience participation always adds another level to the humorous stories he has to share; during the night, his story about the drunk man had the audience in stitches. His many facial expressions often supported by his deadpan humor, always makes him a force to be respected on stage.
Learie Joseph out of Trinidad brought to us a skit which involved a slow learner school boy, and a very impatient teacher. Needless to say, the crowd was deeply invested in the relationship between the two characters. From his antics on stage, he clearly showed off why he is known as a seasoned veteran here in the West Indies. I found myself laughing numerous times at how his obviously “challenged” character seemingly outsmarted the teacher at every turn, even out of his money.
Lord Zenn is no stranger here to the stage in Barbados, however it was apparently his first time doing stand-up comedy on the island. Though his time in front of the audience Saturday was short, his impact was unmistakable.
The man knows how to tell jokes!
His take on the Donville Inniss ‘alleged’ money laundering charge was potent and on par with what most of us islanders thought at the time of the accusation. The shock was not in the charge, but in the amount of money.
“36k for a Bajan politician?” This is the question he asked us for the night, and the crowd had no response but to cry out with resounding laughter. Here’s hoping to seeing more stand up work from the well-known social media comic soon.
Richardo Reid Jr is a fairly new find here on the island’s comedy stage; his many jabs at NIFCA and other performance competitions and thrusted him deep into the comedic waters, of which he now resides, and it’s a great thing to see. The young man is certainly still finding his way on the stage, however after his showing during the weekend, it will be nice to see how he progresses as he gets new material to work with. He did a great job
